Upper Downtown

Upper Downtown Denver is home to primarily high-rise office and government uses, but also features several architectural and historic landmarks, such as Republic Plaza, the city's tallest at 56 stories, the 52-story Wells Fargo Building (known locally as the "cash register" building for its unique top), and the venerable Brown Palace Hotel.  Also of note is the Denver Pavilions, a 1990s retail and entertainment complex along the 16th Street Mall that replaced two full blocks of surface parking.

While too many parking lots still remain, several of the worst near Civic Center Park have been replaced with new infill developments.
