Central Downtown hosts the bulk of the city's skyline, along with important
venues such as the Colorado
Convention Center and the Denver Performing Arts Complex, as well as the Federal District along 19th Street
between Curtis and California and the Tabor Center, a two-block long
retail, office, and hotel complex at 16th and Lawrence.
As the
aerial photograph shows, most of Central Downtown between the 16th Street Mall and 20th Street is solidly developed.
The buildings in this area reflect a mix of 1980s high-rises and historic
mid-rises, particularly along 17th and 18th Streets. Between the
16th Street Mall and 14th Street, however, is an overabundance of surface
parking lots, along with several buildings of minimal size or
character. Fortunately, due to the recent expansion of the convention center
and the construction of the 1,100-room Hyatt hotel, new infill
projects are being developed near these facilities. With the
45-story Four Seasons
tower at 14th and Arapahoe and the 41-story Spire tower at 14th and Champa
under construction, the
future of the 14th and 15th Street corridors has never been
brighter. |
