Denver Infill Blog
September 2005
Here's
where I will regularly share news, observations, rumors, ideas, or
anything else about urban redevelopment, infill projects or Downtown
Denver that doesn't fit into one of the other sections on this website.

16, 2005. Here's a few more details about the
Nichols Partnership's 41-story condo project at the corner of 14th and
Champa (see
Block 131). The building will be
known as The Spire, and will feature a tower of mostly glass with narrow
vertical masonry elements in a somewhat art deco manner, and will be
topped by, you guessed it, a spire. The top of the building will
rise to 470 feet, with the spire stretching its total height to 525 feet.
Construction is planned to begin in December 2005. What a nice
impact that will have on Denver's skyline and in filling in the long gap
of surface parking lots in front of the convention center! The
Spire's design should also nicely complement Denver's only Art Deco-ish
historic high-rise, the AT&T Building (formerly the Mountain States
Telephone Building) at 14th and Curtis. Of course, I'll post a
rendering as soon as I get my hands on one.

15, 2005. Donald Trump is in the news again, and
this time it's not about his last-minute entry into the Union Station
master developer contest. According to articles in both of today's
Rocky and Post, Mr. Trump is planning a separate project in
Downtown Denver that "could be the tallest building in the city."
Quotes from Trump in the articles include that it would be a "major
building in Denver" that is "something that would be very, very terrific,"
and that "he'll know within the next month whether that project - no
details provided - will happen." Trump may not have handled his
submittal for Union Station qualifications as best as he could have, but
if he's willing to build a new tallest skyscraper for Denver, that's fine
by me!

7, 2005. If you've been wondering why there haven't
been any blog updates lately, it's because your DenverInfill webmaster was busy
sunning himself on the beaches of the Big Island of Hawaii for a week or
so. But, I'm back now, so let's start this month's blog off with
some exciting news... more information about
the Lincoln Park development planned for the corner of 20th Street and
Lincoln Street. As mentioned in the initial newspaper articles about
the project, One Lincoln Park is supposed to be just the first of a
multi-building development planned for that wasteland of parking lots
centered around the intersection of Lincoln, 20th Street, E. 20th Avenue,
and Welton Street. |
