Bag Those Parking Meters! Major Dowtown Construction Projects Pending

Every two weeks, the Denver Public Works Department's Development Engineering Services office hosts a Downtown Construction Coordination Meeting, at which contractors and city staff meet to discuss and coordinate construction activities in the Downtown area that may impact the public right-of-way. These construction activities include not only street maintenance and underground utility work, but also construction on private property that affects adjacent streets and sidewalks. At each meeting, a list is distributed and reviewed that contains both new and existing permits for lane closures, sidewalk closures, parking meter bagging, etc. in the Downtown area.

The list that was distributed at the most recent Downtown Construction Coordination Meeting on March 28 contained several new and very interesting right-of-way occupancy and closure permits. Here they are:

Champa – 14th (parking lane/meters/partial sidewalk) (JE Dunn – The Spire)
Dates – April 9, 2007 – July 2009

Champa – 15th to 14th/14th Champa to Stout (meters, partial sidewalk) (JE Dunn – The Spire)
Dates – April 2007 – July 2009

Market – 18th to 19th (sidewalk/meters) (Weitz Co. – 1800 Market)
Dates – April 3, 2007 – June 2009

Wynkoop – 15th to 14th (parking, partial sidewalk) (Holder Construction Co. – 1515 Wynkoop)
Dates – April 2007 - July 2008

14th at Lawrence (partial sidewalk) (DAE Construction – 1401 Lawrence sales trailer)
Dates – April 2007 – July 2007

14th – Lawrence to Arapahoe (meters, partial sidewalk/travel lane) (Swinerton – Teatro Tower)
Dates – April 2007 – December 2009

So what do you think of that, Downtown infill fans!?

Comments:
Ken, you are a true sleuth!

wow...WHAT an April and next 2 years this will be...

2 skyscrapers (both 40+)
2 great pieces of infill (both 8-12)
1.75 blocks of parking lots GONE (total)

Where am I supposed to park?! Very interesting information. The real test is if it all comes to fruition.

It looks like 14th will be a tough street to nagivate this summer with everything going on. Good stuff for Denver, that's for sure!

Some of us are not as insightful as you. Please answer your own question. What are the consequences of these closures? And are they good or bad from an infill perspective?

bring it on baby!

Ken, looks like you found the best leading indicator that dust is about to fly.

As to the parking question... please use public transit from now on :)

"Bag Those Parking Meters!"
A new theme song for Hickenlooper?

Damn! Spire, Teatro Tower, 1800 Market, and 1515 Wynkoop? Again, DAMN!

Well don't get too excited. Looks like Teatro may not start for months from now.

Awesome! Hopefully these all come to pass. I can't wait to see tower cranes dotting the skyline!

I get the sense that one of two things will happen with downtown parking. Either they will have to lay off someone in the parking enforcement division, or the current parking violation crew will now have fewer meters to monitor and will therefore step up their efforts elsewhere....so for the next two years, make sure you have coins for those meters! Hooray!

If these sidewalks and meters are being closed off here in April... Does that = groundbreaking? Or not necessarily...

This is GREAT news. It's going to be truly amazing to see how the Downtown Denver landscape has changed in 5-10 years. I'm excited to be a CPV resident so I can watch this all happen.

Now if only we could take care of Fontius, Cottrell's, and get Confluence at Cherry Creek built... we'd be doing something!

Has there been any word out recently about City House or the Union Station Redevelopment? When are they going to get building?

Big step. I can't image closing off a bunch of sidewalks for nothing, but ha, I'll believe it when I see it!

Still no construction crew at the Spire, and that garage has still not been demolished. They've closed off all the meters so woohoo I can still park for 15 bucks a night at the Spire's lot! Something tells me that all these construction "plans" are really conspiracies by the parking companies...

Go look at it today
