Yet Another City House Design Update

The architects for East-West Partners are keeping busy. Just a few days ago I posted a newly released rendering of the proposed 23-story City House project in the Central Platte Valley. Now they've refined the design even more.

Here's the view looking south, as would be seen from roughly the new Dog Park across the railroad tracks at 19th Street (click to enlarge):

Here's the view looking north from the corner of 18th and Chestnut.

Comments:
Wow, I really like this building more and more!!

I agree. The pedestrian bridge as part of the design is very cool too.

Very nice and I'm glad that it won't have retail, forces more pedestrian traffic to Union Station.

The pedestrian bridge is definitely the one feature of this project that makes it work for me.

This design looks alright, but I much preferred the rendering posted on denverinfill on January 4. With the new version, there's something about that L-shape, between the tall tower and a shorter "shoulder" or whatever you may call it, that doesn't sit with me. Maybe it's the emphasis of the horizontal orientation of the shorter portion of the building, that clashes with the graceful taller tower it's connected to. I much prefer the bundle of vertical lines with setbacks that characterizes the January 04 version of City House.

I agree with Matt Pizzuti, the old design was much more substantial and impressive. To me, the new design looks much less dense and like something one might find in the DTC. I would prefer a building that would add to the skyline, and give the impression of strength and progress.

The Jan 4th rendering still appears to have the shoulder. I just pulled up that one and the bottom one to look at side by side, and it appears the only actual differences are the new one appears slightly taller with more red facade. I'm assuming the developers thought much the same as the readers of this blog that it was looking a bit too similar to glass house and they needed to differentiate it.
