Parking Garage Demolition Set for January 15

Back in my December 3 blog, I mentioned that a banner for a demolition company had appeared on the side of the old Motor Hotel parking garage at 14th and Stout... the site of the proposed Embassy Suites and Homewood Suites towers. I've just received word that demolition of the structure will begin on Monday, January 15, 2007.

For a look back at the garage in its heyday, here's a 1930 image, courtesy of the Denver Public Library's Western History Photography Collection:

Man do I want to see that. I hope you'll post an update on the time of the event.

BOO HISS!!! Sigh. We've seen the Davis and Shaw building go bye bye...and still no Spire! Now it's an art deco gem that will be torn down. I can only hope that Embassy Suites truly plans to develop their 27 story tower here and FAST!!! Because, If I see a layer of ashpalt laid with pretty white lines...I won't be happy!

Does abyone know if they have a permit to build the Embassy Suites yet? Or does anybody know when construction will begin? I would hate to see them tear down a building and leave a vacant lot right in front of the Convention Center.

Too bad they couldn't incorporate the facade into the building plans. Dib's on the clock.
