1755 Blake: More Renderings
This isn't a design update, just addtional renderings that are available of 1755 Blake, a 5-story, 125,000 SF office building proposed by First Century Development for the corner of 18th and Blake on Block 021 in Lower Downtown Denver. The significance of this project lies in its location, in a section of LoDo suffering from acute parking-lot-itis. The presence of this office building with its ground-floor uses will bring a fresh dose of vitality to a relatively quiet LoDo corner. The following images are from the project website, www.1755blake.com. The project architect is RNL Design.

It's great to see another parking lot disappear, but this building does not appear to fit well with the rest of the brick and mortar buildings of LoDo. Did anybody review the design on this thing? Or is there an 18th and Blake in Aurora too?
Gotta concur, doesn't really have the LoDo thing going on.
Side note, I am not a big fan of this modern eclectic piecemeal architecture, but that's just me...
Three cheers for parking lot removal though!

I have to say I really like this contemporary design. Its scale and materials complement the surroundings. In the early years of the LoDo revival most projects tried too hard to be contextual, incorporating Disney-esque historical details inappropriate for the 21st (or even the 20th) century--like 16 Market Square, for example. New downtown projects--in Lodo or not--should not look like interpretations of 19th century designs. As long as the actual materials used for this project are of the highest quality (and you can never tell from a rendering), this should be one of the better infill projects in LoDo.
Saw a Grubb and Ellis sign on the building today leasing space, so perhaps something will be happening soon.
I agree with Mystery. A few well-designed modern buildings add life to the area (althought not too many). Plus, it's not like this intersection is loaded with historical buildings. It's more a sea of parking lots along 18th street in lodo right now. I like this one.
