This block
is home to the northern half of the Denver Pavilions, the late-1990s retail
and entertainment project that took up two blocks of surface parking lot
along the 16th Street Mall. The Pavilions' design puts a
huge blank wall facing 15th Street, exacerbating the presence of the surface
parking lot there. Brookfield Properties, owner of Denver's tallest
building, Republic Plaza, purchased the undeveloped parcel along 15th in
2008 (along with the companion undeveloped lot behind the southern half of
the Pavilions on Block 196) with long-term plans to develop both parcels
with a multi-tower mixed use project. |
