Stadium Walk (Wazee Street side)

The Stadium Walk project was a proposed $72 million redevelopment of this entire block that was to include a Planet Hollywood, a multi-screen theatre complex, additional retail and entertainment spaces, and residential condominiums.  The project was announced to great fanfare in the mid-1990s, with Arnold Schwarzenegger as the owner/developer.  The project's scope included the renovation of the Blake Street buildings, with all the new construction taking place along the Wazee Street side.  The buildings along Blake were eventually renovated, but the rest of the project never happened.  There's been no press about the project for years -- as a result, it's not listed here as an official infill project. The project architect was David Tryba Architects and the rendering shown at left is of the proposed Wazee side new construction.

This block is great along the Blake Street side, with all the buildings renovated, as promised, as part of the Stadium Walk project.  The Wazee Street side still suffers from parking lots.  This block's location is ideal, so eventually it will be redeveloped, but most likely not as envisioned by Mr. Schwarzenegger.  Wazee Street has such a complete street wall from 14th through 17th -- too bad the Wazee Street side of this block has remained as incomplete as it has.
