This
block is fully occupied by the United States Mint, where over 50 million
coins a day are produced. The United States Mint was established in
Denver in 1863 and the current building was completed in 1906. The
Denver Mint reportedly houses the largest deposit of gold outside of Fort
Knox in Kentucky. Free public tours of the facility have recently
resumed since being suspended after the 9-11 terrorist attacks.
