This block
is home to Writer Square, a mixed-use development that serves not only as a
destination itself, but also as a popular connection between the 16th Street
Mall and Larimer Square. Writer Square offers a 10-story, 118,686 SF
office tower, 51,346 SF of ground-floor retail space found around the
perimeter of the block as well as along the interior plaza, 42 for-sale
condominium units, and underground parking. There was some discussion
in the late 1990s of possibly rebuilding Writer Square to achieve
higher densities and, back in 1993, Writer Square would have been
significantly altered by the Taubman Company's controversial downtown mall
proposal. But none of those proposals happened, so Writer Square today
remains a key pedestrian activity center in Downtown. |
